Here are the famous specialties in Korea
With the natural advantages of the fertile earth, Icheon rice was used to present to the kings. Imgeumnimpyo Icheon Rice has the best reputation in Korea, enjoying the title of the “King”(Imgeumnim means a King). With the clean water, rich soil and other natural advantages, the rice is cultivated in an organic way, focussing on growing the best tasting rice while using the least of fertilizers and chemical pesticides.
These days, most people think of the pottery when talking about local specialties in Icheon. This is because the city is well known for the main cite of producing potteries and especially, Sindunmyeon area is regarded as the main ceramic village as there are approximately 300 pottery kilns around the area. As lots of potters flocking in this region, lots of research and artistic challenges have been made as well. There are not only ornamental potteries such as celadon and white porcelains but also potteries for daily use. The potteries in Icheon has generated much profits from exporting to Japan and other countries as well.
Corni is good for stamina, fatigue recovery, boosting appetite, reliving constipation alleviating fever, and is specially effective in preventing hardening of the arteries. Those 8,000 of 50~100 years corni trees are populated in Doripri, Songmalri, and Gyeongsari in Baeksamyeon. The flowers bloom from March to April, the first spring flower after the winter, also known as ‘Seonbi Flower(meaning scholars)’. It is said that some scholars who escaped from the riot started planing those trees in 1519, when the King Jungjong was ruling.
Janghowon white peach is harvest from July to October and Janghowon yellow peach is harvested from June to July. All those peaches are known as the best summer fruit with the juicy texture and beautiful color. With the relatively bigger size and sweeter tastes than other peaches, Janghowon peach is the most popular peach during the season. Especially, yellow peach is a late-harvesting peach with dense, juicy texture and sweet flavor, only produced in Janghowon.
Raised in the clean areas and preserved pure blood by the registry system, Icheon Korean beef is one of the top quality specialities in Icheon, comparable to the reputation of Imgeumnimpyo Icheon rice.
Named after Mt. Dodeuram, this Dodram Pork is a unique in brand which farmers are co-farming in the form of the affiliated cooperative to fight against periodical economic slump. As every process of breeding, feeding, raising and distributing is directly managed within the cooperative, the company has expanded its market to the Japanese market as well, contributing the exports of the country. Rich in DHA, one of the brain cell factors, this pork is good for the brain development for babies and children. Also it decreases the content of cholesterol 13%, preventing many adult diseases.
